The Fabulous Ripcords took home a Syracuse Area Music Award for their self titled CD; The Fabulous Ripcords. Onondaga Rockers Rex Lyons and Irv Lyons front the eclectic blues and roots rock band that includes longtime friend Phil Reagan on drums, Scott Ebner on Keys and Jay Gould on bass. The band won in the Americana category which featured many accomplished artists. Rex explained that their music covers such a diverse range that they cannot really be placed in the traditional categories such as blues, country, swing, jazz and rock. Anyone who has heard the Ripcords will immediately recognize the spectrum of influences, very well represented. The Sammy Award brings a deserved glow to the band and all of the fans who continue to support all native and local musicians. When asked to sum up his musical endeavors, Rex paused for a moment and simply stated “it’s been one helluva ride.” Congratulations to the Ripcords and their faithful followers courageously “livin’ the dream”. The Ripcords are a working band and you may catch them on any given night in the CNY area nightlife’s finer establishments.
