A Day in the Life of Us: Onondaga Nation kids share about their day

March 21, 2009 by Onondaga Nation

Spring 2009

In the morning I am difficult to wake up. I usually wake up around 8:00 a.m. (when I am suppose to be in school) and my sister Janine usually wakes me up by slapping my bed and shouting “Wake Up, Your Going to Be Late.”

After I roll out of bed I fix my hair, get dressed and help get my siblings ready for school. My three siblings and I get into one of our vehicles and one of our parents drive us to school.

When I go to my locker to put my stuff my little sister holly fallows me and asks if she can come to class with me. (I feel bad but, I have to say no). I walk slowly through the cafeteria to grab an orange then I go to the nurses. Upon arriving I head to the nurse’s office, I sign in all of us, and chat with the nurse for a few minutes. Usually we discuss why I am late and what kind of mood I am in. Then after being told about four times to get to class I head to the class I am suppose to be in (which is usually Language class.) I sit in that class and laugh at Kianna almost the whole time. I am not going to lie I mess up in school a lot.

After that I class I head to math class. As I walk through the halls I see a lot of my cousins and friends in classes and I say hello. I get my books and joke around at the lockers for a while. Then I head to class, take my seat and try to pay attention. Today we had a test on functions and think that I did alright on it. Once finished with the test I sit there and draw because I like to draw. The bell rings and I take off for the lockers again.

I grab my ELA things and head to class. We are working on acting out our play. My partner is a little shy but he is doing well on it. Today was dress rehearsal and I think we did alright. I sat and watched the other class’s rehearsing their plays as well. After that was DIRT time and I am reading a book I really like called Marked, from the House of Night series. I read one chapter and it was time for lunch.

I ate lunch today with my mentor, Mrs. M, and we talked about school, her kids, Mexican food, and what assignments I need to make up in order to pass this year. I had spaghetti with meat balls, but the meat balls were really nasty. I also drank two chocolate milks and ate some broccoli.

After lunch I headed down to Social Studies where we are learning about Pearl Harbor. I liked the movie that Mr. S had us watch on that event. I thought it was sort of sad but it was righteous.

After Social Studies I goofed around at the lockers and did not want to go to Science, but I was forced to go. I got there and Mrs. M was the teacher for a few minutes. We went to the cultural center to go over our homework while waiting for out teacher to set up our procedure that we are doing in the classroom. Once we got into the classroom I had to roll a golf ball down a ruler to see how far it moved the cup that was sitting at the end of the ruler. We got yelled at by Mrs. M for goofing around (because we were) and then got back to work. We finally finished the science class, and it felt like forever.

I had music class afterwards and did not want to go because I had to present my Duke Ellington paper. I was embarrassed to present because I did not like the way I sounded. When I was done I listened to the other’s presentation then left to go do some make up work with Mrs. M.

After music I skipped homeroom (as usual) and hung out with the after school staff. Then I stay and play in the gym with six and seventh grade. We played soccer, my favorite sport, and my team won. After the gym we went to the library and gossiped with my cousin Ashley. We talked about our friend Marcia and how much fun we had together when we went shopping. After the library I got on the bus (and was on it for one hour) which took me home. I mean c’mon, how long it takes to get to a house literally walking distance. No, I do not walk home because it’s awkward to run into people.

When I got home everyone was there, but my older sister left. My mom and younger sister Robyn went to the hospital to get x-rays on her leg, because she got hurt during a wii tournament. Cody, Holly, Jack and I shot the B.B guns when my mom left, otherwise she would have not let us. We also played soccer outside and then played tag. When we got cold we went inside and I got on the computer while my siblings watched a movie.

My father went and got kerosene and I watched the kids. He ordered pizza from pizza hut and when he got home we all ate. After eating I washed the kids and got them ready for bed. When they were all in bed I read a book and listened to music (Punk-goes-Curnk) until I fell asleep.

My Mom and Robyn did not get home until after midnight. The good news was Robyn did not break her leg only fractured it, and my Aunt Honey had her baby (Avis honey). Now you have been through a day in the life of Bobbi (without an e).
