Wadeñh nwa’ aweñha
“A long time ago when we all lived in our clan houses”, Shannon Booth said as he met the excited Kindergarteners by the snow snake track on March 4th, 2010. The bundled students listened intently as Shannon told the story of how the Snow Snake or Gahweñda’ came to the Haudenosaunee. Soon our littlest throwers were firing the wooden snakes down the icy track.
Shannon, Kevin Powless and Ed Shenandoah again came to ONS to share the ancient game of snow snake. The men enjoyed sharing how the game is played, stories of different tournaments they attended, giving pointers to throwing the snake, and laughing and cheering with the kids.
It was a great time and we were thankful for the March storm that allowed the track to be built to quickly and for the Shannon, Kevin, and Ed to come and share their knowledge about Snow Snake.
