Syracuse.com Sarah Moses LAFAYETTE, N.Y. — LaFayette School Superintendent Laura Lavine said Friday the school board will not select an Onondaga Nation School teacher to be the next principal, but Lavine won’t say why the district is no longer considering the teacher.
Simone Thornton, a teacher at the school, was one of the three finalists selected by the district’s search committee who picked another person for the job. That person, however, turned down the job.
Onondaga Nation leaders, community members and parents at the school have urged the district to hire Thornton. Thornton, a member of the Onondaga Snipe Clan, was raised on the nation, attended the nation school and her children attend the school.
