Syracuse.com: Syracuse, N.Y. — After much study and contemplation, we at Advance Media New York have compiled a list of the “Top 25 Most Noteworthy People in the History of SU Athletics” — a daunting task when you consider that the Orange has competed in one sport or another since at least Nov. 23, 1889, when Syracuse lost its first-ever football game to the University of Rochester, 36-0.
Thousands of players and coaches have contributed to SU’s celebrated sports heritage over the years, and so many of them have made Central New York proud of their accomplishments both in and out of the arena.
While this video series is meant to honor the best of the Orange’s best, we acknowledge the many accomplishments of those scores of other worthy candidates who didn’t make our cut. With that in mind, we continue with No. 22 in our rankings — Oren Lyons. (Video)
