On Thursday, January 14, 2021, LaFayette School District Superintendent Jeremy Bellfield, after consultation with the Onondaga Nation Council, announced that the Onondaga Nation School (ONS) will remain closed for in-person instruction throughout the remainder of this school year.
With the cases of Covid-19 cases on the rise in the Nation, community spread through gatherings such as reopening the school for in-person learning was determined to be too risky for the overall health of the people in the Nation. Therefore all students and staff at ONS will continue to participate in virtual instruction.
The Onondaga Nation Council is very appreciative of the continued efforts of Superintendent Bellfield, Principal Simone Gonyea, and the entire staff of the Onondaga Nation School in teaching the children of the Nation while attempting to keep everyone safe.
